So Fetch: The ‘Mean Girls’ Musical Is Finally Headed For Broadway
It’s been 13 long years since Regina George told Gretchen Weiners hoops were her thing, and now, finally, Tina Fey’s long-promised musical adaptation of Mean Girls is headed for Broadway.
It’ll make its debut at Washington, DC’s, National Theatre on October 31, 2017, before moving to New York’s iconic Broadway theatre district in March.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Fey and her 30 Rock composer husband, Jeff Richmond, first started working on a musical version of the teen queen bee comedy five years ago.
“[The musical] came about years later, after seeing the stickiness that the movie had, and…how it sort of wormed its way into everyday speech more than any of us expected,” Ms Norbury Fey told the publication.
Fey has been tasked with updating and adapting her original script for the stage, while Richmond will handle the score and Legally Blonde lyricist Nell Benjamin will produce the songs. The Book of Mormon director Casey Nicholaw will be running the show and honestly, we don’t see how this won’t be totally fetch.
Cady, Janis, Damian, Aaron, Regina, Karen and Gretchen will all be back, with the cast a mix of Broadway up-and-comers and veterans.
The show will premiere on April 8, 2018, at NYC’s August Wilson Theatre, with previews starting on March 12, 2018. Tickets for the DC run start at $90 ($73USD) for adults.
