‘The Phantom Of The Opera’ Is Finally Coming Back To Australia This Year
Good news musical fans! While we’ve been starved for the goodness that is live theatre (and not just a live-stream to your bedroom), the stages are coming alive again.
Right now, Hamilton is playing at the Sydney Opera House, and it’s just been announced that the legendary Phantom Of The Opera will be returning to Australia for the first time since 2007. Given that I missed out that year because my parents ditched me and I didn’t want to go alone as a wee baby teen, now is my time to shine.
A revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s smash musical will officially be hitting the Sydney Opera House in September 2021.
It’s set to be a big affair too, produced by Opera Australia with a cast and orchestra of 65 people, which makes it one of the largest musical productions ever in Australia.
Aussie musical theatre performer and classical crossover artist Josh Piterman will be back in the role of The Phantom. He got rave reviews for the same role in London riiiight before Covid shut the whole thing down.
“Words cannot describe how I feel about being cast in this Sydney Opera House season of The Phantom of the Opera,” he said in a statement.
“The role of The Phantom has truly been a lifelong dream of mine and donning the mask on the West End stage in such a legendary production was magical in every way”.
