New Footage Shows The Best Of Disneyland’s New Star Wars Resort

Galaxy's Edge, AKA Star Wars land, is an exciting new addition to Disneyland

Listen, if you’re a Star Wars obsessive like me you’ve probably spent hours dreaming about living in a galaxy far, far away, rubbing shoulders with strange alien species on Mos Eisley or going skiing on Hoth. Well, now you can (kind of).

Yep, Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth, is set to expand its park into a far-flung corner of space, launching the Galaxy’s Edge resort in 2019.

We’ve seen some behind-the-scenes photos and drone footage of Galaxy’s Edge before, and Disney has teased the rides that will be included, but now we have an actual sneak peak at exactly what the resort will look like.

And guess what: it looks incredible.

For a start, the resort boasts its very own theme song, which is something you definitely can’t say about most places you’ll find to stay on Airbnb, for example.

The park’s dusty streets, and brown, entrancingly run-down buildings have been modelled on Batuu. A bit of a Star Wars deep-cut, Batuu is canonically a planet on the far edge of the solar system, inhabited by those looking to lie low, away from the prying eyes of the Empire and the Resistance alike.

But don’t worry, Galaxy’s Edge is no hive of scum and villainy. Rather, it’ll be a melting pot of cheery looking aliens, Disneyland staff, and smiling, sun-blasted tourists (although there will be roaming patrols of Stormtroopers, so watch out for them.)

The resort’s major attractions are two Star Wars rides: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, which allows visitors to role-play as either an engineer, pilot, or gunner on Han Solo’s famous vessel, and Star Wars: Rise Of The Resistance, a massive augmented reality experience set in the time between the original Star Wars trilogy and its first sequel The Force Awakens.

Needless to say, the whole resort will be catnip to Star Wars fans the world over. The exact opening date is yet to be set, but Galaxy’s Edge should open at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, in summer 2019 and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, in the American fall (spring in Australia).
