And The Best City For Quality Of Life Is…

Let’s all pack out bags and set our sights on the Austrian capital of Vienna, because this historic city has just been named the world’s top city for quality of life. Thanks to the 18th annual Mercer Quality Of Life study, Vienna ranked highest in overall quality of life thanks to its stable political system, excellent public transport and low-cost housing, which have made the city one of the most uniquely affordable spots in all of Europe.

Often used by big companies to assess where they should locate staff as well as how much they should be paid, the study examines overall social and economic conditions of the city, as well as access to healthcare, education, housing and environment standards.

While it seems Vienna may not be a top priority for budding Eurotrippers, it is slowly creeping up towards Paris and Rome to become one of the go-to destinations in Europe – and this study certainly proves it. Vienna was swiftly followed by Zurich, Auckland, Munich and Vancouver to round out the top five cities.

Interestingly, only one Aussie city made the top ten – any guesses?

Yep, Sydney! NSW’s sunny capital took out the tenth spot, beating out Melbourne (15th), Perth (21st), Adelaide (27th), Canberra (28th) and Brisbane (36th). The crowning of Sydney as Australia’s best in overall quality of life sure does seem pointed in the wake of the city’s recent introduction of lock out laws and the backlash from its citizens.
