You’ve Gotta Eat This: Poutine at La Banquise, Montreal
www.awol.com.au
What is it? Poutine = french fries sprinkled with cheese curds and lathered in gravy. Delish.
Where can you get it? Various spots across Canada, but arguably the best can be found at 24-hour diner La Banquise in Montreal, Québec.
What’s on it? La Banquise is no stranger to the add on – you’ve gotta try your poutine with extras like bacon, mushrooms, ground beef, guacamole and hot peppers. For an extra special Canadian experience try ‘La T-Rex’ with ground beef, pepperoni, bacon & hot-dog sausage.
Is it good for you? Nah. But you’ll feel extra special hanging your tongue out to air-dry after ingesting ‘La Kamikaze’ (merguez sausage, hot peppers and tabasco).
How much does it cost? It’s pretty reasonable, depending on how many toppings you get. A regular will set you back around $8 and a large around $13. But trust us, you really only need the regular. It’s a full meal in itself.
