You’ve Gotta Eat This: Extra Virgin Olive Oil Ice Cream
What is it? No, you read that headline right – Extra Virgin Olive Oil Ice Cream. As they say… only in America.
Where can you get it? Oddfellows, in Brooklyn – and boy does that name ring true. This place is known for their delectable ( if not slightly off kilter) ice cream flavours. In the past they’ve had Tequila Pineapple, Miso Cherry, Caramelised Onion, Beet Goat Cheese & Candied Pistachio, Guinness and even an Absinthe Chocolate Chip.
What’s in it? Well there’s no real recipe out there but we’re assuming just olive oil and ice cream? Oddfellows’ chef Sam Mason has said he tried olive oil ice cream in Spain once and he could never forget the flavour. On recreating it in the U.S. he said he “always wanted to do it as a flavour because I love the taste of it, but also because the texture of olive oil ice cream is unique.” Unique is right – imagine a creamer, yet somehow ~smoother~ type of ice cream. It’ll certainly be interesting.
Is it good for you? Compared to something like double chocolate chip cream fudge or something, yeah, it’s not too bad.
How much does it cost? Depending on how many scoops you get (you’re going to want more than one) it’s pretty reasonable. Oddfellows work on a rotation menu, so sadly this flavour isn’t available everyday. Check their website for their daily servings if you’re in town.
