Is Copenhagen Home To The Best Festival On The Planet?

What makes a good festival? Good music? Good people? Good vibes? It’s probably a combo of the three. But what about a great festival? A great festival just has something extra – something that takes it to the next level, and we reckon Copengahen’s Distortion Festival does just that.
Taking place in June, Distortion is a huge week-long (and all-night) mobile street party celebrating club culture and the city of Copenhagen. The streets come alive at Distortion, painting a pretty stark contrast to those in Sydney which – since the introduction of tough restrictions on late-night alcohol sales two years ago – has seen the city’s late night economy steadily declining.
For Distortion however (which bills itself as a “week of orchestrated chaos”) the party continues on well into the night where the city, and its people, come alive.

Festivities kick off in the streets of the Nørrebro and Vesterbro districts, then travel across town as the week progresses. It all wraps up at Copenhagen Harbour for the final party on Sunday, where upwards of 100,000 people descend on the former industrial shipyard for an all-night rager. It’s pretty epic.
Distortion functions kind of like a hosting project where local clubs and DJs curate their own events throughout the week, with the Distortion team bringing them all together for a wild party-crawl through the streets. It’s as though the city turns into a giant nightclub, with music blaring from shopfronts, intense light shows from opposing balconies and people everywhere dancing through the night.
And don’t fret if you’re not a big raver; there’s a wide selection of events across the city including pop-up street restaurants and a stage that just plays classical music. There’s something for everyone.
