Festival Bucket List: Camp Doogs

What: Camp Doogs is a small no-bullshit DIY camping weekend in Western Australia which is less of a festival and more of a fully-fledged habitat for live music and art in the great outdoors. This year is its third, and while the lineup stays under wraps ’til the day it starts, pervious years have seen killer sets from the likes of Nick Allbrook, Kucka and Peter Bibby.

Where: Doogs parks itself about three hours south of Perth in a magical nature reserve. BYO tent, swag, scroggin, hammock, wearable sleeping bag and whatever else you need to stay dry and warm when you wind up your dancing at dawn. Camp Doogs has a bunch of buses leaves from a central location in Perth and the bus ticket is included in the festival ticket price, which is a modest $150 for times so good they should be illegal.

When: Friday October 9 to Sunday October 11, 2015

Capacity: Small. Like, shy of a thousand.

Fun fact: In their own words, here is what is provided at Camp Doogs: “All-you-can-feels live music, activities, soundscapes, mindscapes, bushwalks, deep dancing, food trucks & local community vendors, solid dunnies, professional security, first aid, Doctopus kissing booth, impromptu massage station…”

Why should you go? There’s no media passes, no official lineup release, no jerks and no lines for expensive drinks (it’s completely BYO, plus it has cooking facilities so you can even bring your own eggs and bacon). You’ll make a tonne of new friends and probably be able to survive off the memories alone for a solid month afterwards. Tickets are on sale today from here.
