Literally Hundreds Of Shops On Melbourne’s Chapel Street Are Now Pet-Friendly
I don’t want your pity, but I don’t have a dog. If I did have a dog, however, I’d want to take them with me everywhere. Brunch? You better believe I’d order them something off the menu. Beach day? I’d exclusively visit dog-friendly beaches, ofc. On a shopping spree? I could if I lived in Melbourne, because more than 300 shops along Chapel Street are now pet-friendly.
A whole heap of shops, gyms, salons, banks and cafes along Chapel Street opened their doors to four-legged shopaholics earlier this month, making it the first major shopping precinct in Australia to be pet-friendly.

You can take your dog (or cat) into hundreds of fashion and lifestyle shops like Bailey Nelson, Bonds Outlet, Dymocks, Bat Your Lash and JB Hi-Fi.

And while Australian health regulations prevent animals from entering supermarkets or being within ten metres of most food preparation or consumption areas, plenty of Chapel Street’s cafes, restaurants and bars have created special pet-friendly spaces. Grab a meal together at Hawker Hall, Leo’s By The Slice, Grill’d and Shanghai Dragon Dumpling House.

The cute-as-hell initiative was led by the Chapel Street Precinct Association to make the area more social and health-conscious.
“Dog owners are estimated to be four times more likely than non-dog owning adults to meet recommended physical activity guidelines,” said Jonathon Somers, occupational therapist and Director of Next Practice Health Prahran. “On top of that, there are untold mental health advantages of sharing your life with a pet, with studies showing the love hormone oxytocin is released in the presence of animals like dogs and cats. We applaud Chapel Street on embracing this important aspect of our lives.”
