Junkee Media, Australia’s leading youth publisher is on the hunt for a full-time travel editor to join its custom publishing team based in Surry Hills.

AWOL is produced in partnership with Qantas and inspires young Australians to travel the world. The AWOL Editor is ultimately responsible for writing daily news and features while managing an in-house staff writer and team of enthusiastic freelance contributors in commissioning features and editing. The Editor also oversees the title’s social video output.

The ideal candidate will be a super fast writer, well-versed in standard editorial operations and have a sophisticated understanding of the digital publishing ecosystem and native content. You’ll be social media savvy and know how to get your content seen as widely as possible.

Above all you’ll write original content that stands out from the crowd and have a real passion for engaging and award-winning storytelling.

Responsibilities:

The AWOL Editor will write, commission and sub-edit timely, accurate and inspiring travel content in the AWOL tone of voice. You will work in partnership with the AWOL account team to oversee social videos and set functional content calendars. You’ll also be responsible for managing an in-house staff writer and freelance contributors. In addition to this you’ll manage social pushes, image selection and be ready to represent AWOL at all levels both externally and in front of the client.

You:

You’ll have a Bachelor’s degree in media and communication, arts, or English. You’ll have at least three years’ experience in a travel editor position or similar, and have a portfolio of published work to support your application. Experience managing people, budgets and social is a must and you’ll also be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Mac operation and be used to using WordPress. A passion for and interest in local and international travel is a must and you’ll also align with Junkee Media’s core values.
