Holy Yum, Uber Eats Is Bringing ‘Flying Burgers’ To San Diego

Since its inception back in 2014, Uber Eats has delivered the goods – literally. They’ve made it almost too easy to get tasty eats delivered straight to your door, with little-to-no fuss.

We get it though, when you’re feeling super bloody hangry, that 20-minute wait time can feel like an eternity. But soon you’re dinner could be coming to you a whole lot quicker, with Uber getting the green light to test drone food delivery in San Diego.

Now Uber isn’t exactly the first to take food delivery to the skies. In Hong Kong, a service called FoodPanda is already delivering dinners by drone in as little as 20 minutes, with plans to expand to a bunch of other Asian countries.

Dominos Pizza had a crack at it over in New Zealand in the summer of 2016 too, but plans to expand the service to Australia are still up in the air.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi says that the food delivered by drone will arrive on your doorstep in five to 30 minutes, because the world “needs flying burgers”. Needless to say, we’re on board.

Khosrowshahi revealed Uber’s plans during an interview with Bloomberg at the company’s flying car conference, Uber Elevate. The ride-sharing app has partnered with outside agencies like NASA and the US Army to build the vehicles with “pilot programs,” beginning as early as 2020.
