Heads Up Musical Theatre Nerds: You Can Now Stream Andrew Lloyd Webber Musicals For Free

A scene from Jesus Christ Superstar by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice @ O2 Arena, London.

If there’s one thing we’re achieving in 2020, it’s becoming professional homebodies, and our at-home entertainment just scored big time. For the first time ever, you can watch Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals online for free. Where my musical theatre nerds at?

The filmed version of some of his most enduring musicals will be available on the brand-new YouTube channel The Shows Must Go On. The channel is launching the first musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, on Saturday, April 4.

A different Andrew Lloyd Webber musical will be made available on The Show Must Go On every Saturday.

Although the full program hasn’t been announced yet, we do know that Jesus Christ Superstar will be next on April 11. Andrew Lloyd Webber himself has promised that we’re getting “buried in the schedule later on, the most important one: my disaster musical Bye Jeeves.”

And yes, it’s the 2012 Jesus Christ Superstar starring Tim Minchin and Melanie C.

The second production to be made available will be legendary rock classic, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (2012) for Easter weekend, 11 April, the arena production starring Tim Minchin, Melanie C and Chris Moyles, with further shows to be announced.

Of course, that means there’s no word yet on whether Cats will stream, but you’d kinda imagine it’d be included after the internet lost its collective mind for the movie adaptation last year.

Alongside full-length shows, the channel promises to bring musical theatre fans “clips of famous performances and behind-the-scenes footage”.

The Show Must Go On will be airing new Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals for the next six weeks, so keep an eye on the channel to get your weekend entertainment sorted!
