A South Australian Tourism Forum Just Got ‘Zoombombed’ With Porn

‘Zoombombing’ is yet another thing we’ve had to learn about in 2020, and the latest case was on SA Tourism Commission [SATC] while they were simply trying to hold a public forum on the platform. After it kept getting taken over with *checks notes* a lot of porn, they had to shut the whole thing down.

The free public webinar was being held to help the tourism industry through this bloody awful time of the coronavirus and the difficulties it causes, what with social distancing and all.

They didn’t make it very far though, with pornography and some…suspicious… dialogue being thrown into the mix just a few minutes in.

Speaking to the ABC, Deb Budich from DBusiness Events who participated in the webinar, said it took a while for anyone to realise things were out of hand.

“We’ve got all these fantastic events people here who are desperate for information and it was going to be delivered. But about 15 to 20 minutes in, everyone realised there were some fairly serious things going on”.

“It’s called ‘Zoombombing’ and it’s been happening fairly consistently around the world”.

Look, it is kind of funny, no-one can deny that. Did anyone else go straight to Fight Club and Tyler Durden chucking porn frames in the movie reel?

But it’s also just a bit shit to do it at an event aimed at trying to get hardly done by industries back on their feet. Like, just save it for you family Zoom reunion guys.

Throwing porn at an unsuspecting audience is also a fair way different than Hamish Blakes’ early attempts to crash everyone’s work meetings on the platform. Or that time y0u could invite cute farm animals along to liven the group chat.

The takeaway? Zoom is probably only ok for smaller, private meetings, because there are people out there who want to ruin everything.

Of course, you could always just use it for your socially distanced drinking games, seems hard to ruin that with porno.
