Sydney, You’re Almost Out of Time to Claim Opera Bar’s $1 Oysters

In case you hadn’t noticed, summer has arrived in Sydney. Weddings, Christmas parties, music festivals, those concert tickets you almost forgot buying: it’s all happening. And what better way to celebrate silly season than downing 12 oysters for $12 as you take in glittering views of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour?

That’s right: Sydney’s prime drinking spot Opera Bar has rolled out $1 oysters on weekdays throughout November – which means you’ve only got a few days left.

From 6 to 7pm this week, you can pick up freshly shucked East 33 Sydney rock oysters at the bargain price. In case you’re curious, those are oysters from the longitude 33° of the East Coast of NSW. (Also important intel: they’re delicious.) For context, a half dozen rock oysters will usually cost you $26 at Opera Bar, so your accountant is going to be stoked.

The oyster power hour is preceded by Sunset Hour from 5 to 6pm, where you can ease in with $10 spritzes and $9 pints. Yep, it’s time to word up your boss on that 5pm “appointment”.

In addition to those ancient delicacies, Opera House also boasts free live music every weekday. This week’s acts include Sydney duo The Junos, accomplished singer-songwriter Justine Eltakchi and singer Juliane Di Sisto. You’ll be so well positioned, you might even forget the whole frugality thing and start splurging on champagne.

Opera Bar is also ideally placed for a round or two of oysters before a show at the Opera House. Sydney Theatre Company’s production of Louis Nowra’s classic Australian play, Così, is currently playing in the Theatre, while The Studio is hosting The Choir Of Man, a cabaret show that’s come from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
