Sydney’s Maybe Sammy Has Just Been Named The World’s Best New Cocktail Bar

The best bars in the world have been named and honoured at the 2019 Spirited Awards, and Sydney has come out with a shiny gold medal – with Maybe Sammy in The Rocks being named the world’s Best New International Cocktail Bar.

Sydney’s Maybe Sammy beat out nine other new cocktail bars in countries around the world, including fellow drinking hole Scout at The Dolphin Hotel, for the award that recognises a recently opened bar that made an immediate impact on cocktail culture and set new high standards for the industry.

So it’s no surprise that cocktails at Maybe Sammy are an extravagant affair. Creations include drinks that have been strained through salty chips, mixed with kombucha and served with meringue. Served by bartenders in sleek outfits in a venue that’s as lush as the drinks menu, it’s not hard to see how this Sydney bar took out the top spot.

The annual Spirited Awards is one of the industry’s most coveted awards nights. It’s hosted by Tales of the Cocktail, a week-long festival dedicated to cocktails. The awards recognise the very best cocktail bars and bartenders around the world.

Maybe Sammy is the only Australian bar that won an award on the night, but a whole heap of our other venues scored nominations, including Black Pearl in Melbourne and Matt Whiley from Scout who was nominated for International Bartender of the Year.

Maybe Sammy’s sister restaurant, Maybe Frank, was also nominated for Best International Restaurant Bar.

So it’s official, friends. The best new cocktail bar in the world is right on our doorstep.
