[related_articles]62603,32877,32554[related_articles]InterNations, the world’s largest network for people who live and work abroad, have conducted a survey of 14,300 migrants from 174 different nationalities living in 191 countries or territories. They were asked to rate 43 different aspects of life abroad on a scale from one (bad) to seven (good).
The survey covers a wide range of topics, including basic facts about demographic data and the moving process. One question focussed on participants’ happiness with factors related to their country of residence and personal life abroad. The results shining a light on countries where people who move overseas might be happiest.
Taking out the number one spot was Costa Rica. As one of the top five dream destinations for migrants, the survey proves this small Central American country makes people of all walks of life pretty chipper. Ranking fifth in the survey’s Quality of Life section and second in the “ease of settling in” section, Costa Rica is popular for people living abroad thanks to the welcoming attitude of its people.
Second on the list was Malta. This tiny European island boasts an ease of settling in, low language barrier, low cost of living and enviable weather. Funnily enough, the survey shows that personal happiness of migrants in Malta is one of the best as 70 percent of the surveyed expats are in a relationship – this in comparison to the global average of 63 percent.
