Gyms Are Back In NSW On June 13 So Better Dust Off Those Sneakers

Not to toot my own horn, but I’ve been surprisingly good at maintaining a WFH exercise routine — probably because there hasn’t been much else to do until recently. Nonetheless I’ve been jonesing for the moment I can get back into my gym (I know, ew, I’m one of those people) and it seems the answer is: June 13.

In a press conference earlier today, NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard announced that indoor fitness is back in a couple of weeks, including yoga, pilates, dance studios or group training sessions.

As social distancing is still important, classes will be capped at 10 people and the four-square-metre rule will still apply.

Much like restaurants and pubs in NSW as of yesterday, they’ll be required to sign all guests in, including phone numbers, for easy contacting.

“There’s a lot of people desperate to get back in there and the [Deputy Premier] and I are just desperate to get back into the gymnasiums,” said the Health Minister.

In other good news, these easing restrictions also apply to massage and tattoo parlours, so you can work out the brand new knots you’re about to get from working out again — then commemorate the whole thing in ink. Maybe.

As of June 1 in NSW, pubs and bars re-opened and all hospitality venues were able to start serving up to 50 socially-distanced customers. The state also re-opened beauty parlours, much to the delight of my housemate who booked appointments for the morning of.

Restrictions have been easing all around the country, so keep up with what you can and can’t do in your state here.
