Where can you get it? Arepas are popping up here and there at hip modern restaurants, but the real deal can be found in South America in both Columbia and Venezuela.

What’s in it? The arepa itself can be made in various different ways, depending on region. Arepas are usually made from either cooked flour or ground maize and then is either baked, boiled, grilled or steamed. It’s then filled with meats, egg, cheese, avocado, beans, salad, and a variety of sauces for seasoning.

Is it good for you? These are a staple among Columbian and Venezuelan cuisine, and they’re not too dissimilar to tacos. It all depends on what you put inside.

How much does it cost? Next to nothing if it’s from South America, but it can get a little pricey at your closest Venezuelan restaurant.
