Wish You Were Here: Saxon Hotel, South Africa

Following his release from prison, Nelson Mandela used the picturesque backdrop of the Saxon Hotel in Johannesburg as the sanctuary in which to complete his memoir Long Walk To Freedom. And you can totally see why.

This deluxe oasis is the epitome of luxury – located in the neighbourhood of Sandhurst in central Johannesburg, Saxon is known for its award-winning spa and classy dining options.

Guests can indulge in the azure swimming pool with its underwater music, or wander the ten acre garden in search of the koi pond. The hotel’s newest restaurant Qunu Grill offers regional food and beverages including grass-fed beef from the surrounding regions and mussels from the coast. Delish.

All of the 53 rooms are modern and stylish in design and feature contemporary prints that match the African art displayed around the interior of the hotel.

Prices start at 4950ZAR ($507AUD) per night and include breakfast.
