If, like us, you watch a Wes Anderson movie and are promptly plunged into a period of disdain regarding the banality of the IRL world, you’ll be pleased to know there is now a way to actually step inside this fabled land, authenticated by the beloved creator himself. Director, producer, screenwriter and actor Wes Anderson has gone and designed the interiors to a cafe, adding another laurel to his already crowded cranium.
The man behind films like Moonrise Kingdom, The Darjeeling Limited and most recently The Grand Budapest Hotel has a unique visual style that is splashed all over Milan’s Bar Luce. It’s like a slightly surreal self-contained world in there, complete with pinball machines (including a Life Aquatic one), baroque-style wallpaper, vintage furniture and a jukebox playing all of the obscure dreamy hits you’d expect to hear on a soundtrack to one of his films.

His inspiration for the cafe fit out was to create a setting in which he’d like to write a movie, and the considered space, which harks back to Milanese cafes of years past, seems the ideal place to do so.

Bar Luce is a part of the recently opened venue Fondazione Prada, which is part art gallery, part cultural institution and part architectural wonder. The huge exhibition space is also home to site-specific installations and a modern kids’ area designed by a group of Versailles architecture students.
