Those Adorable Koalas We Lent To Singapore Zoo Are Coming Back Home

We don’t know about you, but picking out our favourite part of 2015 is pretty easy  – remember that this was the year that Qantas flew a convoy of koalas over to Singapore for an adorable vacation in their specialised ‘Koala class’.

These little guys were headed off to Singapore Zoo, for a 10 month stint in celebration of Singapore’s 50th anniversary of independence as well as 50 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Singapore. Well, now they’re coming back.

While Paddle, Pellita, Chan and Idalia have enjoyed their gap year very much, it’s time for these guys to return home to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane.  Qantas crew member Beti Koltovski was on hand to issue the koalas with their Joey Passport and boarding pass before to their departure from Singapore.

With koala-mania sweeping Singapore over the last year, the acclaimed zoo saw a serge in visitors with over 800,000 guests visiting in the latter months of 2015. The koalas were a part of the new Australia Zone at Singapore Zoo, which is currently undergoing a makeover, and will feature a whole crop of native Aussie animals when it re-opens.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and Qantas Freight have each played a pivotal role in helping Singapore Zoo prepare for the koalas to visit, including shipping fresh eucalyptus leaves to the koalas twice a week.

If this isn’t the feel-good story of the year, I don’t know what is.
