Qantas Frequent Flyers To Receive Flight Discount Vouchers

The world opening back up after the COVID pandemic lockdowns hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing, especially when it comes to travelling interstate and overseas again.

Many passengers have struggled with lost bags, flight delays, and flight cancellations as domestic and international airports try to keep up with the demand of travellers after standing down staff during the pandemic.

Qantas is one of the airlines embroiled in the controversy, with unhappy punters complaining about poor perfomance from the airline and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) criticising the airline for sacking 1600 baggage handlers during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Chief executive of Qantas, Alan Joyce, has now apologised to customers, assuring travellers the company is striving to get “back to our best”, with the airline hiring 1500 additional staff members.

“Over the past few months, too many of you have had flights delayed, flights cancelled and bags misplaced.

There are good reasons why, but when it comes to what you expect from Qantas, it’s not good enough. On behalf of the national carrier, I want to apologise and assure you that we’re working hard to get back to our best,” Joyce said.

The airline has offered a $50 flight discount voucher to all Australian and New Zealand-based Frequent Flyer members, as well as status extensions for those with silver status and above.

Qantas also said members with Qantas Lounge privileges will receive an extra invitaton for the Lounge to use for themselves or for a “Frequent Flyer friend, colleague, or family member.”
