This Tiny Bookstore Is Travelling Around To Quaint French Villages
We all love tiny things. From tiny food passed around at parties, to tiny shampoo bottles in hotels, to tiny houses, bars and boats, there’s something totally adorable about all things miniature. So it only makes sense, then, that tiny things are set to take over the retail world too.
Enter La Maison Qui Chemine and their debut store, La Librairie Itinerant, or the travelling bookstore. It’s a teeny tiny bookstore in France, and it’s going to be visiting dozens of French villages, towns, and basically anywhere without its own resident bookstore.
The store is the collective brainchild of bookseller Jean-Jacque and designers Pauline and Romain, who were tasked with creating a bookstore that would not only contain books, but living quarters for Jean-Jacque, who plans to reside within the roving shop.
At just 5.4 metres long, 2.5 metres wide and 4 metres tall, the bookstore weighs 2,800kg, lives permanently atop a tailer, and cost just €38,500 (around $57,800AU) to make.
As you can see in the photos, it really does look like a bookstore (just a really tiny one), filled with hundreds of books, and even a little space to sit and indulge in a chapter or 10.
The store also contains a wooden ladder to access the higher bookshelves, behind which lies a small loft home to a double bed and desk, as well as a small kitchen and toilet. It’s about as cosy as you can get – with the added benefit of being surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of books.
