These Amazing Photos Were All Taken On iPhones

It’s pretty amaing to think what we can do with our mobile phones these days – access all of humanity’s knowledge at the click of a button, catch imaginary Pokémon, and apparently, win prestigious photography competitions.

The winners of the ninth annual iPhone Photography Awards were just announced, proving that there’s no real need to lug around a heavy and expensive DSLR anymore when your handy pocket device does just about the same thing.

To enter the competition, entrants must use either an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to take the image; as such, some photographers may be asked to verify the original image was taken with one of these devices. Photoshop isn’t allowed, but the bylaws state photographers can use iOS apps to alter their images.

There are 18 different categories, including animals, architecture, children, landscape, lifestyle, people, still life, sunset, and travel. All entrants compete for the prestigious IPPA Photographer of the Year Award title, with the first place winner of each of the 18 categories receiving an actual bar of gold from a private mint. Talk about the midas touch, hey?
