There’s A Therapy Pig For Weary Travellers At San Francisco Airport Now
It’s not quite ‘when pigs fly’, but it’s close enough.
Since 2013, San Francisco’s International Airport has been running a program known as the ‘wag brigade‘, where trained dogs are brought into the terminal wearing jackets that say ‘Pet me!’ to make travel way less stressful (and heaps more Instagrammable) for passengers.
As if this wasn’t glorious enough, today the wag brigade brought on their newest member: LiLou, a Juliana-breed pig, and SFO’s patron saint of cuteness.
LiLou is the first airport therapy pig in the US, and she comes equipped with a winning personality, extremely adorable costumes and perfectly manicured nails. She apparently loves to perform tricks and is already a popular drop-by at other facilities in SF, including hospitals and senior centres.
LiLou’s first outing to the airport happened this morning, and she really showed up for the occasion, donning her fanciest tutu, a beret, and her signature red nails.
The wag brigade program is run by the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), which certifies each animal through its Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) Program. You can learn more about it here.
Any flying nerves or exhaustion are almost guaranteed to take a back seat in the presence of this strong beauty. LiLou, we don’t know you, but we already love you.
