A whole lot has transpired there, but Black Rock City has never seen anything like this before.
The not-for-profit Big Imagination Foundation will be bringing one of the biggest, most mind-boggling art installations that Burning Man has ever seen to the Nevadan desert this August. They have acquired a real Boeing 747, which will be modified into a “giant, towable interactive 300-seat egalitarian ‘venue on wheels'”. Measuring in at the length of half a football field and three storeys tall, it will be the largest moving structure to date at Burning Man. And no, it won’t be leaving the ground.
The Burning Man organisation states, “Burning Man is not a festival. It’s a catalyst for creative culture in the world.” The Nevadan desert version is the largest annual gathering for the global community, known an “Burners”. The event falls at the intersection of community and art, with strong values of self-reliance and self-expression.
The complicated 747 job is not without its challenges, and the foundation are currently seeking donations and volunteers to work on the project.
Burning Man takes place in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada from August 30 to September 7.
