Pack Your Bags, Qantas Just Added A New Direct Flight To The USA

This weekend saw the launch of the newest Qantas flights connecting Australia and the United States. In doing so, the flying kangaroo launched its first route from Brisbane, Queensland to San Francisco in California.

It’s a totally new destination for direct flights from Brisbane. The new route will be served by a new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner — the pride of the Qantas fleet, and among the most popular and comfortable planes operating today.

Flights on the new route will take approximately 12 hours and 40 minutes, flying 11,367 kilometres over the Pacific Ocean. The Brisbane route, which will operate three times per week, joins the daily San Francisco service from Sydney and the four-times-weekly flights from Melbourne to the city.

The other new route to launch soon from Queensland is the previously announced direct flights from Brisbane to Chicago, another route that’s never been operated before, and which will be flown on the Dreamliner.

“These new services will link Australian corporate and leisure travellers with two lynchpin capitals of commerce and culture in the United States,” said Qantas International CEO Tino La Spina at the launch of the San Francisco flight on Sunday. “Customers will save around four hours travel time compared to the one-stop options currently on offer.”

He said the flights to both cities will also promote Brisbane and Queensland as a whole to Americans through the new gateway.
