Queenstown’s Catapult Experience May Be The World’s Scariest Extreme Sport

Queenstown, New Zealand is an adrenaline junkie’s dream, with more extreme sports than you can poke a stick at. But one adventure company in town has seriously upped the ante, bringing a world-first experience to the South Island. And AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand co-founder Henry van Asch recently revealed the Nevis Catapult Queenstown.

The catapult will see thrill seekers experience up to 3G of force, and soar through the air at speeds of almost 100km per hour in 1.5 seconds as they are launched 150m out across a gorge before dropping towards the valley floor.

“It’s hugely exciting to be here today, revealing the Catapult to the world, following years of playing around with the idea,” van Asch said in a statement. “It’s a pretty unique feeling, surprising even. There’s nothing else quite like it.”

The Nevis Catapult is nestled in the hills between a series of cables, alongside the infamous and similarly terrifying Nevis Swing. The experience is a unique combination of height, flight and speed, using a custom-made, high-speed winch system developed over years of research.

All of which is just science talk for guaranteed to have you shaking in your jocks.
