Dubai is the perfect combination of desert-bound decadence an unbridled, adventurous spirit. At the centre of it is the unmissable Ambassador Lagoon at Atlantis The Palm, teeming with hundreds of species of aquatic animals.
Visible from the on-site restaurant and a number of the hotel’s sprawling suites, it’s home to more than 65,000 marine animals. And, now, visitors can night-time stroll right through it.
Atlantis The Palm have today debuted AquaTrek by Night, an underwater experience made possible by a specially designed helmet that produces a constant supply of air. Those keen to take the literal plunge are submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of 3m, where they’re free to walk around with the Lagoon’s many nocturnal residents (rest assured, none its many sharks are present).
Sessions start at $225 (650AED) per person and are suitable for anyone aged eight years and older (no previous dive experience is necessary). All the necessary fancy equipment is supplied, along with towels, wetsuits, and boots. Underwater photographers accompany every trek, but GoPros are available to hire for an additional $20 (60AED) if you’d prefer to take creative direction.
If you’re keen to get amongst it but prefer to keep dry, a visit to the hotel’s Lost Chambers Aquarium is the perfect alternative. Inspired by the lost city of Atlantis, the aquarium offers everything from tours to theatre shows and yoga.
