This Boozy Dumpling Festival Is Coming For You, Melbourne

Of the 365 days of the year, there are a few stand outs. Birthdays, Christmas, International Doughnut Day and June 22, when the Dimmy and Dumpling Festival takes over Melbourne.

Yes friends, it’s exactly what it sounds like. A whole day dedicated to serving up the city’s best dim sum and dumplings in the Welcome to Thornbury food truck park.

We’re talking the best of the best here, people. Think handmade dim sum from Harry Hoo, Polish dumplings from Pierogi Pierogi, spicy bois from Flamin’ Dimmies and plenty of special selections from The Brunswick Mess Hall, Woking Amazing, Dimsim King and Momore Melbourne.

Like any good throw down at Welcome to Thornbury, the booze will be flowing. Get your hands on a beer or treat yourself to a cocktail while you eat one of the top ten foods ever created.

The party starts at 12pm and runs until 10pm. Dogs are welcome all day and it’s adults-only from 8pm onwards.

If you can’t get to the Dimmy and Dumpling Festival, there’s plenty of other foodie stuff going down in Melbourne. The city’s getting a new Japanese dessert joint next month, plus a ’70s-inspired karaoke bar by the team behind Holey Moley and B. Lucky & Sons arcade bar, and we’ve put together the ultimate list of the best places to eat and be fancy in Melbourne.

But Melbourne’s not the only place getting some dumpling love — Din Tai Fung in Sydney has a special edition rainbow dumpling for Vivid Festival that’s seven times larger than the chain’s regular dumplings. My body is ready.
