Google’s New Headphones Can Translate 40 Languages In Real Time

Since its inception back in ’98, Google’s been on a mission to make our lives easier while globetrotting, from providing a catalogue of all the best bars and restaurants at our fingertips, to never getting lost again with the creation of Google Maps less than a decade later.

Its latest product, however, is changing the game with a truly revolutionary concept: instant translation earphones.

On Wednesday, Google unveiled its latest gadget, Pixel Buds. At first glance, they look like any old ordinary set of earphones, but it’s what’s on the inside that counts.

Using an internal microphone, the earphones listen to up to 40 different languages and translate the dialogue in real time. This allows you to listen to translated dialogue and respond, with your speech translated via the external speakers.

The earphones come in a charging case, and offer up to five hours of listening time on a single charge, but because the case will give you multiple charges, you can get up to 24 hours of use if you’re away from a powerpoint.

The new technology is set to hit stores in November with a $200 ($159USD) price tag. Translation services aren’t a perfect science, so make sure you do your most important travel plans before you hop on the plane.
