Don’t Worry Guys, They’ve Found The Best Bacon In Australia

To celebrate Australian Bacon Week (which is a thing that totally exists guys!) a bunch of foodie types gathered to complete a task so daunting and delicious that only the noblest souls could withstand the sheer euphoria of it all. Over a period of two days, a number of top chefs sampled over 135 Australian bacons to determine who makes the best cured pork in this southern land of ours. Many entries were worthy, but there could be only one winner.
The lord of Australian bacon in 2015 comes from the semi-rural Pialligo Estate outside of Canberra. Taking the crown for the second year in a row, the dry cured and smoked shortcut rashers were described by judges as “beautifully marbled with a nice smoky aroma and nice balanced taste”. The bacon is now available in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, but we reckon the best place to try it is close to the source in Canberra from Pialligo Estate’s on-site Farmhouse Restaurant.
Canberra also claimed another titles in the awards, with Mawson’s Southlands Quality Meats winning the prize for the best full rasher bacon. Check out the full list of winners here.
