This Sheep Farm Is New Zealand’s Most Stunning Rural Stay

A working sheep farm mightn’t be on the tippy top of your bucket list of dream stays, but we reckon that’s only because you haven’t heard of Cabot Lodge, the bespoke farm stay in the middle of Cathedral Peaks Station on New Zealand’s South Island.

With views this stunning, you’d be mad not to want to stop in for a night or two.

Cathedral Peaks has been a working sheep farm for more than five generations, but in recent years, has had a major glow-up. Today its farming facilities cater for both locals and visitors, with flourishing veggie gardens, fresh eggs, honey, berries and meat which all come straight from the paddocks.

Breakfast and canapés are available every day, and we very much recommend indulging. Or, opt for a lunch hamper and explore the grounds for the perfect picnic spot.

The luxe lodge boarders 1.2 million hectares of forests, lakes, valleys and mountains and, as you’d expect, boasts incredible views of its sunning surrounds. And there’s a bunch of fun to be had in the surrounding forest land, like hiking, fishing, kayaking and more.

When it comes to the accommodation itself, there are four different suites that can sleep up to 10 guests, all of which offer stellar views of Lake Manapour and surrounding mountains.

Ready to book? Cabot Lodge won’t be welcoming its first guests until November, and due to its secluded location, is only reachable by helicopter or aircraft, followed by a short journey by car. But totally worth it, in our opinion.
