Wading through the various Facebook groups is often a wild ride, but there are always gems. Like the group who started dressing up just to put the bins out during lockdown. Or the various air fryer facebook groups who give me life. Don’t even get me started on my addiction to Facebook Marketplace groups.
Now, there is a new hero in town (well, apparently not new, but I was today years old when I heard about them): Homemade McDonalds.
The currently 31.7k members are dedicated to the completely homemade replication of your fave McDonald’s treats, from the classic cheeseburger, to your fancy pants apple pies.
They then share photos of their creations to the group on Facebook or Instagram — but group creator, Joel Thomas, has drafted up some strong rules to govern the posts.
For example “NO PRODUCTIONS FROM MCDONALDS ARE TO BE USED IN THE COOK, MAY THE SHIT-MERCHANT WHO DOES BE DELETED AND BURN IN LIFE BAN FOR LIFE CHEERS”. Yes, it’s in all caps on the page.
There’s also a “NO CREATE YOUR OWN TASTE BULLSHIT (that’s cheating)” rule, although vegetarian and vegan substitutes have been allowed.
All posts have to include their ingredients and a rating out of 10, and there are a whole bunch more ways to get yourself banned forever. But guys, there are plenty more ways to get yourself banned from the group for life. So much so that I’m absolutely imagining Thomas as a Gordan Ramsay type.
It’s kind of worth it though, the results are actually impeccable. They’re basically what the Macca’s promos look like but the in-store replicas NEVER do.
I honestly can’t tell you why this brings me so much joy, especially as I hate cooking and if I can’t do it in an air fryer, I simply won’t do it. And yet, it really, really does.
I’m going to chalk it up to 2020.
I’m also just going to leave you with my own personal favourite contribution, by some smartarse. Please enjoy.
