Atari (Yes, The Video Game Company) Is Opening A Bunch Of Hotels

In what must be one of the furthest leaps in business diversification in history, Atari, which was once on the forefront of video gaming innovation but has lagged in recent decades, has announced it will open eight “Atari hotels” across the United States.

Yes, the video game company that gave you Pac-Man, PongSpace Invaders and Frogger will soon offer themed accommodation in eight cities across the USA. Construction is expected to begin on the first, located in Phoenix, Arizona, in mid-2020.

The hotels will offer “fully immersive experiences for every age and gaming ability, including the latest in VR and AR (Virtual and Augmented Reality),” as well as some Atari hotels containing dedicated spaces for hosting esports events.

“When creating this brand-new hotel concept, we knew that Atari would be the perfect way to give guests the ‘nostalgic and retro meets modern’ look and feel we were going for. Let’s face it, how cool will it be to stay inside an Atari?!” said Napoleon Smith III – producer on the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film franchise and working in development and design for the hotels.

After the Phoenix location, Atari is planning for additional hotels in Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco, and San Jose. And that’s just the initial bunch — one can assume that if the hotels are successful there will be even more opened around the country, and hopefully the world.
