All Of Canada’s National Parks Will Be Fee-Free In 2017

If there was ever a time to go ahead and book that trip to Canada, this is it. In 2017, Canada’s national parks will be free to all visitors thanks to a (somewhat unconventional) promotion celebrating 150 years since Canada’s confederation.

You can now visit some of the most photogenic places on earth for free and it doesn’t involve illegal or elaborate means to bypass those park entry fees. Yep, the newly appointed Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau (who has already proved himself to be a deadset legend), has announced in his mandate letter to the new Minister of Environment and Climate Change that he wishes to celebrate 2017 with free admission to all of Canada’s National Parks. Great job, new guy!

An annual pass to the country’s national park can set you back around $67 for a discovery pass, which allows you entry to a number of participating parks across Canada (even still – there are some parks that aren’t included in this pass, which ultimately means additional fees elsewhere). Even though it’s not an inordinate amount of money, it just makes those parks seem that liiiiittle bit more accessible, so we’re totally on board.

The beautiful Moraine Lake just got a little bit closer. As did Lake Louise. And Athabaska Falls. And countless other scenic wonders across this colourful country. Ugh, it’s just so beautiful.

And if you want to take your Canadian devotion to the next level, don a mountie hat and become a citizen, of course. The Canadian government have announced that anyone who wishes to become a Canadian citizen in 2017 will also receive a free year-long pass to their new homeland’s parks in 2018. Um, yes please!?

Even if you’re not ready to denounce your Aussie citizenship just yet, getting access to Canada’s parks for free in 2017 sounds like something we want to be a part of.
