Airbnb has announced it will launch new luxury platform Beyond by Airbnb as part of the company’s 10th birthday bash in San Francisco.
After acquiring Canadian company Luxury Retreats last year, Airbnb has been pretty hush hush about its plans to introduce additional tiers, but today’s announcement is the cherry on the top of a long list of new programs designed to bring the “magic of travel to even more guests around the world”.
The line-up? Villa Sarasvati in Bali ($887 per night) comes complete with every conceivable luxury, like a private housekeeper, driver and chef, and tropical palace Villa Avalon in remote Costa Rica ($1900 to $3400 per night) offers a wraparound swimming pool with enviable views of the Pacific Ocean.
For the history buffs among us, Italy’s Villa San Luigi ($4324 to $5,420 per night) sits atop a Tuscan hill overlooking the property’s picturesque olive grove and veggie garden.
“To go beyond, we must have magical experiences like truffle hunting, cooking lessons with local chefs and so much more,” Airbnb co-founder Brian Chesky said in his keynote address at Airbnb HQ in SF. “It’s the trip of a lifetime. Custom-designed.”
Beyond by Airbnb will launch in Australia in tandem with the US spring season. More details are yet to come, but so far it’s looking seriously epic.

Want the luxury without the hefty price tag? Airbnb Plus — which was also announced overnight — is for the travel gliteratti, too, though it’s more accessible to mere mortals like us.
Airbnb Plus invites select hosts with high ratings and reviews — AKA “superhosts” — to be part of a fancy pants collection of listings designed to offer guests a more premium experience. It’s kinda like a ritzy invite-only club where members undergo a gruelling 100-point qualification process.
“Beautiful homes, exceptional hosts, verified for quality… Airbnb Plus offers all the comforts of home and more,” Chesky said. Airbnb Plus has 2000 homes listed in 13 cities (including Sydney and Melbourne), with plans to expand before the year’s out.
Other initiatives launched as part of Airbnb’s 10th Birthday include new property types (vacation home, bed and breakfast, boutique and unique), Airbnb Collections (where you can choose listings based on occasions like weddings or work), and a community recognition project.
