This Beloved Japanese Retailer Is Getting Into The Accommodation Game

Lovers of minimalism and sleek design, listen up: Cult Japanese retailer Muji is planning on opening a hotel in Tokyo’s Ginza district in 2019.

It’s a logical progression for the brand, which has already dabbled in the design of everything from tiny homes to airport terminals (as one does). According to a press release, the hotel will sit atop a brand-new flagship store – the company’s biggest yet at over 14,000 square metres – near the Metro Ginza station.

Spanning a mind-boggling 10 floors (and an additional three basement levels), the hotel is expected to occupy levels six to 10 and will be decked out in Muji’s crazy-popular furniture and décor. With any luck, guests will be able to shop their favourite pieces direct from the rooms.

The company announced earlier in 2017 that it also planned to open a hotel in Shenzen, China. It’s expected to open later this year, while ground was broken on the site of the new Ginza store on June 15.
