You’ve Gotta Eat This: Currywurst

What is it? A greasy German delicacy that brings you the best of both worlds: sausages and curry.

Where can you get it? Not unlike Australia’s obsession with kebabs, Germans can usually be seen scoffing down a currywurst on street corners.

What’s in it? A steamed then fried port sausage seasoned with curry ketchup (basically tomato sauce topped with curry powder and other spices). Get ready for a flavour explosion.

Is it good for you? Nah. Soz.

How much does it cost? Pretty cheap for a late night snack – scope out the best of the best by asking the locals where they get their favourites.

Fun fact: This delicacy was immortalised in the Deutsches Currywurst Museum in Berlin, with a sausage shrine dedicated to the dish which includes a sausage sofa, a curry “spice chamber” and a video montage of currywurst cameos in movies. This stuff is serious.
