Victorians Are Getting A Second Round Of $200 Vouchers To Holiday In Their Regional Areas

I don’t think there’s ever been a greater motivator to explore your own surroundings, than being told you absolutely can’t (thanks Covid).

Since November last year when the state got their second wave under control, the VIC Government announced yet another reason to get out of the city: three rounds of $200 vouchers to spend in regional Victoria.

There are 120,000 vouchers up for grabs, and to qualify, Victorians just have to book a cheeky vacay and spend a minimum of $400 on accomodation, tours, or attractions in a regional area. That’s half your holiday back, just saying.

“Whether it’s a day trip with the family or a tour along our stunning coast, we’re helping more people get out and enjoy the best Victoria has to offer,” Premier Daniel Andrews said.

The first round sold out damn fast, and the second will be up for grabs right here on January 20 at 10am. If you’re a little slow to score your own this time, then set an alarm for the third round happening on March 30 at 10am.

The voucher scheme is one part of a $465M tourism package to be announced in the upcoming state budget, and is expected to be up and running in time for the summer holidays.

Luckily for locals, Victoria happens to be a really, ridiculously good-looking place to explore. There’s the Grampians, for starters. They also happen to be home to 2020’s best pie, which is very important.

If you need help planning your regional summer getaway, we’ve got just the guide for you here: whether you’re into food scenes, nature or getting off the beaten path.

This announcement comes after the NSW Government announced $100 vouchers of their own for locals to spend on dining and entertainment in an effort to boost the economy.

Dubbed the “Out and About” voucher scheme, everyone over 18 will receive four $25 vouchers through the Service NSW mobile app, two to spend at restaurants, cafes and clubs and the other two to spend things like cultural institutions, performing arts, cinemas and amusement parks.

“We want to encourage people to open up their wallets and contribute to the stimulus effect,” NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said.

“The dining and entertainment industries were among the hardest hit by the pandemic and I would encourage people to utilise this scheme once it is up and running and to make sure they spend a bit extra on the way through, too.”

There are limitations — they can’t be used on retail, alcohol, gambling or cigarettes and and only COVID-safe businesses are included — but still, gimme, I will spend.
