An Underwater Hotel Is Opening In The Great Barrier Reef
Once you’ve stayed in one hotel above ground, you’ve stayed in all hotels above ground tbh. For your next escape, you can head under the sea and stay in an underwater suite on the Great Barrier Reef.
Reefsuites, Australia’s first underwater hotel, will open this summer, offering guests a chance to spend the night in a submerged suite with incredible views of the coral reefs and its marine life.

Each suite comes with floor-to-ceiling windows with views of tropical fish, turtles and manta rays. Private glass en suites mean the views don’t stop just because you have to go.

Reefsuites is the centrepiece of the $8 million redevelopment of Cruise Whitsundays’ Reefworld pontoon. The pontoon also offers floating accommodation and a whole heap of underwater activities.
The underwater hotel is already helping to protect the Great Barrier Reef — during the redevelopment, almost 4000 pieces of coral were sustainably removed from the old pontoon and replanted onto the reef wall.
“The new Reefsuites will combine unrivalled access to a World Heritage listed destination with quality hospitality and a unique food and wine experience,” Shaun Cawood, Cruise Whitsundays General Manager said.
“The pontoon itself will have new interactive experiences providing education and inspiration for guests and shining a spotlight on the unique natural environment that is our incredible backyard.”
A stay in a Reefsuite includes a return cruise to the reef, all food and drink included and a whole heap of marine activities to pick from. Accommodation starts at $749 per person, and you can already register your interest online so you’re prepped when bookings open later in August.
