This Bonkers Dining Experience Just Got Shanghai’s Newest Michelin Stars
Since French Chef Paul Pairet opened Ultraviolet in Shanghai back in May 2012, the restaurant has been the recipient of countless awards, including spots in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants three years running, and, now, it’s been awarded a coveted three stars in the 2017 Michelin Guide.

Ultraviolet calls itself a “multi-sensory experience” – with no décor or windows, the restaurant plays with sound, scent and touch, right down to the airflow and temperature of the room.
LED lights and trippy projections illuminate the space, scent diffusers manipulate tastebuds and sounds manipulate the senses and create a truly unique experience.
To get to the restaurant, diners meet at chef Pairet’s other restaurant, Mr and Mrs Bund. There, guests are taken to an undisclosed location.
But even without the gimmicks, the food speaks for itself – just look at the awards they’re racking up.
If you’d like to experience this for yourself, bookings are essential. Prices start at $795(¥4000) per person, and can be booked via their website.
