Sydney’s Newest Cinema Lets You Watch Movies From A Comfy Bed

Watching movies in bed is basically heaven, but it means you miss out on the joy of sitting alongside a bunch of fellow film lovers sharing a communal viewing experience and shushing people who have left their phones on. So what do you choose – bed or cinema? Thankfully, with the new PicNic Cinema coming to Parramatta this April, you can have both.

Launching Friday April 8, PicNic Cinema will screen a selection of international and local films which can be enjoyed from the comfort of an inflatable double bed under the balmy night sky. And yes, there will be blankets. There’s 100 bed spots available each night, so booking in advance is essential, and no worries if you miss out on a bed – you can also just set up on the lawn beside them.

The films are pretty special too – each night will represent a different country, with films ranging from Japan’s animated Ponyo to France’s comedic The Spanish Apartment and even a special screening of the Aussie classic Muriel’s Wedding.

It won’t just be popcorn and choc tops on offer either – PicNic Cinema will be bringing out a collection of gourmet food stalls to match the country of the feature film’s origin each night. Expect around 20 pop-up restaurants serving tasty international street food as well as a selection of the best wines and beers from Argentina, Spain, France, New Zealand and Japan. There’ll be live music as well, making it a pretty rounded night out. Just don’t fall asleep during the movie like you do at home; it’s money wasted.

PicNic Cinema will take place at Prince Alfred Square in Parramatta from Friday April 8 until Saturday April 23. More info and tickets are here.
