This Margarita Festival Has Fairy Bread Slushie Margs And That’s All We Needed To Know

In these troubled times, we need something, ANYTHING to look forward to. Unfortunately, we also need that thing to be somewhat close to home because planning in 2020 doesn’t exist.
Enter, the three-week slushie margarita festival, Ritapalooza, hitting Sydney later in August.
Look, I’m a basic bitch so frankly they had me at ‘margaritas’. However now that I know those margs are being hosted by fab Mexican joint and slushie marg pros, El Camino Cantina, I’m extra in.
This sweet and boozy treat will kick off from August 25 — which yes, is a Tuesday but nothing matters in 2020 — with slushie cocktails, live music, DJs, and COVID safe conditions.
With a whole lot of slushies on tap, you can expect El Camino’s signature marg flavours (the classic, mango, strawberry and tropical). However, there will also be 15 brand new flavours, many with a a distinctly 90s nostalgia twist.
Think HubbaBubba, grape Nerds and *pauses for dramatic effect* fairy bread. I’m sure, by now, you’re all starting to understand just how much I love fairy bread. Other flavours are cocktail mashups, like the spritz-margarita and mojito-margarita.
If that simply seems like way too much choice (I get it), you can head on over at 6pm for a $10 margarita blind tasting. Your entry fee will get you a sip of six different marg flavours.
If you manage to guess them correctly then BOOM, you’ll be in the running to win a double voucher for the El Camino Cantina Tex Mex Fiesta package. That basically means a three-course menu and two-hours of bottomless margaritas, beer or wine.
Alternatively, you can test out 13 of them in 50ml taste test sizes with the metre long paddle “Metre Rita”.
You should also definitely eat something while you’re there, I shouldn’t need to explain why. So it’s good news that Ritapalooza will also feature a bunch of limited edition food menu items, like $4 tacos on Tuesdays, a wing roulette with a hidden extra hot wing on Wednesday and food combo deals on Thursdays.
You get it, it sounds like a bloody good time, and we all need a good time this year.
