12 Of The Cosiest Sydney Bars With Fireplaces To Keep You Toasty All Winter

Kassia is the Editor of AWOL, and a straight-up travel…
There is something magical about a fireplace, and I refuse to be told I’m wrong. No matter how cold it is outside (and rainy, bloody hell Sydney, just give it a rest for a moment), as soon as you sit next to a fireplace, preferably with a drink in your hand, you’re immediately cosy.
As I sit in my freezing cold house, huddled under three layers of clothing and my fluffiest slippers, it seems like as good a time as any to work out where I’ll be going this weekend, based on their fireplace — and if they’re back open again, because that’s life now.
12 Sydney bars with fireplaces
#1 The Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel
It seems only right to start with Sydney’s oldest pub still in its original form. Craft beer and fireplace enthusiasts alike will love it here. Not to mention the harbour views. Details here.
#2 Bitter Phew
If you’re keen on tasting some of Sydney’s best local brews while playing board games by the fireplace (excuse me, is this heaven?), then this is your place. Details here.
#3 Charlie Parker’s
A cute basement bar on Oxford street is exactly where you’d expect to find a cosy fireplace, and you’d be right. Their bar snacks are also on point. Details here.
#4 The Hero of Waterloo
What is it about sandstone and fireplaces that equals perfection? This may not be the oldest, but it’s still bloody old. Plus they have a bunch of legends and a secret tunnel to discover. Details here.
#5 The Hotel Steyne
Right on the Manly beach waterfront is this local institution with not one, but two fireplaces to keep its patrons cosy while they also enjoy some ocean views. Details here.
#6 The Glebe Hotel
This pub may have had many changes in decor last year, but luckily the fireplaces remain the same. They also have the exact British pub menu you want to eat by a fire. Details here.
#7 Dove & Olive
Most of my working life has been around this pub, so I can confirm the gas fireplace is merely the cherry on top of a wide beer range, delish pub eats and cute decor. Details here.
#8 The Doss House
Tell me you don’t want to be chilling on one of those couches inside a heritage-listed building on George Street right now? Especially with a fine whiskey in hand. Details here.
#9 The Riverview
If no normal fireplace will do and you expect some grandioseness to it, then nab yourself a seat in front of the marble beast at the Riverview Hotel. Details here.
#10 The Duke of Clarence
This pub is the most British thing you’ll find outside of England, so of course there’s a perfect fireplace. Honestly, we dare you not to be cosy here. Details here.
#11 The Lord Dudley
With current restrictions on the number of people who can dine at one time, you’re almost certain to be by the fireplace in this classic pub. Be sure to book ahead. Details here.
#12 The Foxtrot Inn
It’s not the easiest bar to find, but once you do you feel like you’re part of the club. Enjoy the cocktail creations while you chill by the fire. Details here.
