Please Enjoy This Map Of The Most-Streamed Songs Named After Countries

I don’t know about you, but I have certain songs that transport me right back into the time and space I was in when first listening to them. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs absolutely turn me into a moody teen finishing high school in Far North Queensland. Kendrick Lamar will always remind me of living in Canada, and Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball will forever be me, on my first ever solo trip, traipsing around South Africa and falling head over heels for travel instead. Don’t judge me, the song was a mood.

I’m obviously not the only one who remembers my life through song, scores of musicians have named their songs after continents and countries around the world, so clearly they were feeling it too. Africa by Toto is the absolute first song that comes to mind for me, but mainly because that song is a virus and I’d rather listen to nails on a chalkboard — unpopular opinion, I know.

So it’s pretty fun that Budget Direct used Spotify data to find the most-streamed songs named after countries, then handily popped them on a map (and in a playlist) for us.

In and around Down Under we have Australia by The Shins, Nepal by San Cisco, Hong Kong Garden by Siouxsie And The Banshees, Holiday in Cambodia by Dead Kennedys and a whole lot more:

North America, of course, have the likes of Born In The USA by Mr Bruce Springsteen, Haiti by Arcade FireGuatemala – From Swaecation by Rae Sremmurd, Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi and more:

A few in South America include Don’t Cry For Me Argentina by Madonna (dare you not to have that stuck in your head for the rest of the day) and Paraguay by Iggy Pop, plus a bunch more:

I’m not going to lie, most of the Europe inclusions are a mystery to me, but apparently you all know them. I do recognise Scotland by Lumineers, Montenegro by David Guetta and Georgia by Vance Joy. See if you beat my tune knowledge:

The Middle East and Central Asia is bringing you Kazakhstan by Brian Eno and, my personal favourite, the United Arab Emirates National Anthem by Glocal Orchestra:

Last, but far from least, Africa has tunes like Ethiopia by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Walk like an Egyptian by The Bangles, which I absolutely had to do a terrible dance to in my year two play.

By the way, these have all been put into a 13-hour and 22-minute playlist on Spotify, which you can listen to here.

So there you have it, please enjoy procrastinating over these for the next half hour.
