Some Legend Figured Out The Ultimate Beer Road Trip With Maths

Beer + roadtrips = fun.

Beer + roadtrips + having to actually drive across the USA = slightly less fun.

So to balance this very delicate equation, American Local Ledge Nathan Yau, who owns Flowingdata, some statistics software that seems to do a lot of stats on beer and sandwiches (that’s our kind of maths!), used an algorithm that would let him visit the top 70 craft breweries in the US, as listed by RateBeer.com.

The idea is that you reach all these breweries, but with the least amount of driving possible. Yau found at a very minimum, you would need 197 hours of drive time across 12,299 miles. You stop in 28 states and pass through 40. Including time to metabolise the beer so you’re not careening across America wasted, you’d need twenty days non-stop to do the road trip.

If you’re easily distracted, though, those numbers skyrocket. On Yau’s route, there are an extra 1400 breweries within a five-mile radius of the roads he would drive. PREPARE YOUR LIVERS.
