Reykjavik’s New Minimalist Hostel Offers Inexpensive Elegance

Back in 2009, Iceland welcomed just over 450,000 tourists. By 2016, that number had spiked to 1.8 million with a projected 2.4 million visitors to visit by the end of this year.

It’s no secret that tourists can’t get enough of Iceland, and who could blame them? It’s home to some of the largest glaciers in Europe, some of the world’s most active volcanoes, and is one of the best places on the planet to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

With the boost in tourism, new accommodation options are popping up all over the place, with one in particular perfect for a wide variety of interests and budgets.

ODDSSON is located at Hringbraut 121 on the west bank of Reykjavik, set inside a historic warehouse building with space for up to 250 guests.

The greatest thing about ODDSSON is its variety of room types and pricing, catering to every type of traveller. Bunk rooms, which sleep up to 12 guests, start from $55 (4500ISK) per night.

More luxe options include the hotel room package, featuring fully stocked mini-bars, vinyl record players and city views from $300 (24,900ISK) per night.

The hostel/hotel’s groovy minimalistic interior design and décor falls somewhere between modern, retro and Wes Anderson, featuring pastel walls, turquoise doors and delightfully mismatched furniture.
