Niagara Falls Has Been Transformed Into A Winter Wonderland By Extreme Cold

While you’re enjoying the spoils of an Aussie summer, spare a thought for folks in the Northern Hemisphere who are currently enduring gnarly winter conditions.

There is an upside to temperatures as low as -15 degrees Celcius, and it comes in the form of spectacular, icy scenery. Niagara Falls, which straddles the USA-Canadian border, has been all-but frozen in time by the frigid conditions, and it’s truly a sight to behold.

The cold snap hasn’t been enough to put a stop to the flow of water (more than 3100 tonnes of water regularly rush over the falls every second, after all), but it has slowed, while the land surrounding the three falls that make up Niagara – Horseshoe, American and Bridal Veil Falls – is replete with icicles and deep snow.

If you’d prefer to visit Niagara Falls in more comfortable conditions, the Northern Hemisphere’s summer (June to September) is your best bet, with most viewing platforms, walking trails and tour operators offering extended hours during the warmer months.
