Machu Picchu Is Now Wheelchair Accessible For The First Time Ever
Machu Picchu is one of the most-visited places in the world, but its steep and winding stone steps mean it’s never been easily accessible for travellers in wheelchairs — and that is, basically, a bit shit. Now, tour company Wheel the World are offering wheelchair-accessible tours of this Wonder of the World.
Machu Picchu is hundreds of years old, but it only became accessible for wheelchair users in December 2018. Thanks to Wheel the World, a lot more people are going to be able to see the ancient Inca site from now on.
[related_articles]59092,57891[/related_articles]Machu Picchu’s rugged terrain, and the hundreds of uneven steps along the trail, have made it so hard for wheelchair users to visit the site before now.
Wheel the World use specially designed chairs to traverse the landscape, meaning that travellers don’t have to rely on their own equipment to make the journey.

Wheelchair users can travel with friends and family or by themselves – if you’re planning a solo trip, the guides at Wheel the World are trained to operate the special trekking wheelchairs and help travellers with the logistics of moving around the site.
Wheel the World operates eight tours to Machu Picchu, from a single-day adventure to a six-day trip staying in four-star hotels.
